PROFESSIONAL BIOGRAPHY

Henry A. Punzi, MD, FCP, FASH is in private practice and conducts clinical research at the Trinity Hypertension & Metabolic Research Institute in Carrollton, Texas. He currently serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, and an attending physician in Internal Medicine at Carrollton Regional Medical Center in Carrollton, Texas.

Dr. Punzi received his medical degree and postgraduate training from the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina, and completed fellowships in clinical and research hypertension at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, Parkland Memorial Hospital, and St. Paul Hospital, all in Dallas. He recently completed a one-year Harvard Medical School Postgraduate Education Training program, “Training to Teach in Medicine.”

PROFESSIONAL & EDITORIAL LEADERSHIP

Dr. Punzi was a member of the Council for High Blood Pressure Research of the American Heart Association, the American Society of Hypertension, and the American Society for Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics. He is an Executive Board Member of the Inter-American Society of Hypertension. He is Academic Editor of the International Journal of Hypertension, previously served on the Board of Directors of the Consortium of Southeast Hypertension Centers, and currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Inter-American Society of Hypertension. He is an Editorial Board Member of The Open Hypertension Journal.

CLINICAL RESEARCH

Dr. Punzi has been involved in Clinical Research since 1986 and has been a Principal Investigator in 150 clinical trials, highlighted by participation in the VALHEFT, ALLHAT, VALUE, SPRINT, and SPRINT MIND Trials (NIH Sponsored). He served on the Inclusion, Exclusion and Retention Committee of the NIH sponsored SPRINT/SPRINT MIND study. Dr. Punzi has designed and completed eight investigator-initiated clinical trials and is currently serving as Medical Director of Clinical Trials with Nutraceuticals Corporation, where he is involved in the development of NC-107, a novel inhaled medication for anxiety.

PUBLICATIONS & SCHOLARLY WORK

Dr. Punzi served 15 years as the chairman of the editorial committee for the Dallas Medical Journal. He has published over 80 articles in medical journals and written Ten book chapters. He has co-authored 2 books on hypertension, has written a book on hypertension, and served as series editor for three volumes of Clinical Cardiovascular Therapeutics. He currently is completing his second book, The ABCD of Hypertension.
